The challenge

Coldharbour made some of the best beer in the county and sold almost none of it outside Ravenmouth. Every can had a different label, drawn by whoever had a free afternoon, and bar staff in other towns had no idea it was all from one brewery.

The idea

We gave every beer the same bold grid and a single colour, then let the names do the talking. A pale ale is yellow wherever you see it. The taproom site puts this week’s beers and opening times on the first screen, because that’s what people look for on a Friday afternoon.

The result

The new cans went into 40 new bars and bottle shops in the first six months. Taproom visits were up 64% on the summer before, and the brewery added a second shift in August.
